Blog EntryHard disk crash. Not a plane.May 3, '08 5:12 AM
for everyone

I've recently moved to Manila (from Katipunan). I have all my stuff with me. Plus a new table that will have my studio stuff.

Anyway, after arranging, connecting and cleaning, I turned on the computer.

DISK ERROR. PRESS ENTER TO RESTART.

Yay. Sira na. Good bye to saved projects, recorded vocals and samples, hard-to-find samples, The Neptunes samples, Dr. Dre samples, Timbaland samples and of course, the finished stuff. I haven't checked if I have all these in another hard disk (as back up). If not, edi wala!!!

At least, i have some other stuff on this laptop. :(

Little spark of hope: There's a possibility that the motherboard is the one that's whack. :)

Blog EntryBagong Buhay Equipment ReconstructionApr 18, '08 12:07 PM
for everyone

So, I realized that I don't really need my DJ equipment since i don't mix at home anymore. I've decided to completely reconstruct my project studio equipment. In other words, magseseryso na ko sa gamit. That translates to KACHING. Yup. Expenses. I have to get the stuff that I'll really use.

  1. Dispose of two mixers. I won't let go of the turntable haha
  2. A simple simple mixer that should, at least, accept two inputs. One for the microphone. One for the audio track that the vocalist will record to. Both channels should be audible to headphones. Control of output to the recorder/computer should be possible because, of course, the vocals will be recorded - NOT with the audio track.
  3. A microphone. Probably one from the KSM series of Shure.
  4. A compressor.
  5. Maybe a gate.
  6. If the evironment is good, I might need a control room matrix for clean and hassle-free communication with the present vocalist.
  7. A better sound card if I'm still patient by then.

Yup. Kaching. I don't know what i should buy first. Probably the mixer though.

this whole day was spent within a three-meter radius. lupit. haha. plus, bored. so that means quite some time of sleep. and staring at the damn sound lever meter thing go up and down as i listen to crap going on and on. eat. thats about it.

may war. lalaban ka. syempre, may weapons ka na. equipment, radio and all that crap. pero nakalimutan mo magarmor para mas madali gumalaw kasi alam mong magaling ka lumaban. so, true enough, buhay ka pa rin afrter the battle. pero may mga cuts and bruises ka na dahil sa kakaiwas and dodge ng enemy fire. delikado yon e. risky. ako, ayoko matamaan ng bala. uh, kasi masakit yon. in short, kailangan ng armor lagi para safe pag nakikipaglaban :)

Blog Entry07.13.07 AHS Intrams OpeningJul 13, '07 4:53 AM
for everyone

i have prepared an electro track for the intrams opening. it is in the tune of the 'ateneo go and fight'  thing. in the covered courts, once again, the mids in the eq were low. in effect, the main leads were inaudible to most. only the ones near the speakers heard the tune. as for the rest, they only heard kicks, hats, claps, crashes and wind build-ups. i was recognized. yay for that.

we had CAT after, and that sucks.

i saw ...... she was right in front of me. looked great as usual. i felt shitty. the smile, laugh and how the way she just is, are great. great. yea, great. whatever.

Blog Entryproject. admu graduation song. hard trance blah.Jun 15, '06 12:40 PM
for everyone

yesterday was the reading of honours. as usual, boring. as usual at the end, we sing that song with fists up in the air. while the whole high school was singing, i was thinking about the movement of the fists synchronized to the song. every forward movement of the fist was one beat of a measure. then after the whole song was finished, i called rain's attention and said, "Rain, may idea ako.". he then said, "Gagawa ka ng version mo?" then i go, "Yeah, and you'll sing." the idea was first to speed up the tempo. no fists are needed. people should jump! i was thinking how i'll do it. hard-hitting ala Mark Norman trance, melodic arp kind of trance, soulful house, or hard-hitting hard synth trance. of course soulful house was out and since i want hard stuff, i chose hart-hitting kicks with heavy synths. when i went home, i totally forgot about it and since i had to read el filibusterismo. damn. yea so the next day, which is today, thursday, i looked for the gr.7 mass song book. at the last page was the song's music sheet. i made the bassine first. if i followed what was written in the book, it would sound like a kid's song. after the bassline, the hard synth. the synth is bouncing on octaves and on overdrive. the strings followed and percs. i finished the music and tomorrow, rain will sing to finish the song. and for some reason, this rico blanco guy has his own version of the grad song. it needs to be thumping!

i started doing 2 Million Ways [Axwell Remix] - C-Mos. it was finished so i rendered it to an mp3. i listened to it and i decided to take the flanger off. when i ran FL Studio and opened the saved project, a stupid box appeared saying that the file is corrupted. i wouldn't redo everything! damn. or maybe i will. the bassline was so hard to figure out. the string lead was kinda confusing. the saw sine lead was complicated.

crap.

Blog EntryPacha IbizaJan 19, '06 8:42 AM

HISTORY
After the success of the first Pacha Club in the seaside town of Sitges.  Ricardo Urgell saw an opportunity for a similar venture on the Balearic Island of Ibiza.  As Francos reign reached its end, Ibiza and Pacha were destined to become a hub for the free expressions of the hippie movement and glamorous hedonists of Spanish society.

The building was designed and decorated by Ricardo Urgell and longtime friend Jorge Goula and was built in 1972-1973.   They decided to design it using the typical Mediterranean style with its characteristic simplicity and whiteness, flat roofs and small windows.  Like Ibizan style houses, the building has a central mainroom with all the other rooms adjacent and terraced, allowing for the organic feel that exists and allows for seamless growth.

Pacha was the only building on the far side of the harbour, with the beach coming up across the road.  By night it was the only illumination across the bay.  The original building contained 2 dance floors, a restaurant, terrace and garden and opened in May 1973.  The music was programmed and played by Ricardos brother Piti Urgell.

The club immediately became a focal point for Ibizas diverse population, this diversity still exists today, with many of the revelers that came to the opening parties still regulars today.  From the outset Pacha represented stylish hedonism and freedom of expressions.  This was also mirrored in the clubs music, design and decoration.  no expense was spared on throwing lavish themed events such as Hollywood parties, the infamous White Parties and the still popular Flower Power parties.

The 1980 brought with them more partygoers to Ibiza along with more competitors.  A  pool  and garden were added at the back of the club to compete with the new  open-air venues on the island.  In 1983 the mainroom was extended to increase the capacity of the venue and allowed the venue to offer rooms with different ambiences and styles of music to cater for the diverse tastes of the island.

In the 1990s, the foreign invasion to Ibiza swelled, bringing with it a new interest in nightclubbing... the DJ.  Pacha started to host foreign promoters and DJs, but still maintained its original ethos of tasteful hedonism and unrivalled quality.  Some of the early promoters and DJs that performed there in the nineties include:

The new millennium has seen the same growth and approach as the last 3 decades.  The same family is at the helm and their considerations are the same, yet their experience is vast.  It is open all year, making it difficult to find anybody who knows Ibiza but not Pacha.  Pacha still represents the same thing to Ibiza now as it did in 1973.  Every year has seen some new change or altdration to the building, allowing it to be constantly dynamic and fashionable.  The spirit of Pacha Ibiza has not stopped soaring yet.

If Ibiza is the melting pot of Europe, then Pacha is the eternal flame that has simmered the cauldron for the last 30 years.
